Warden Captain Arthur Stager

Warden Capt. Arthur Stager, died on duty on Oct. 28, 1948. Drowned in Fall River near Glenburn, Shasta Co.

From Fish and Game, Vol 35, October 1949: Stager was on patrol with Warden Wm. Hoskins. They were working duck violations with Stager in the boat and Hoskins on shore. Stager fell from the boat and while and Hoskins went to get another boat Stager drowned. Hoskins was able to retrieve Captain Stager's body and administered artificial respiration but it was unsuccessful.

According to a report of the incident in the Redding Record Searchlight, Stager was retrieving a duck when he fell from the boat. Hoskins observed his standing upright in the water when he left to get another boat which he knew was nearby.
